Keeping Chat Manager Active in Microsoft Edge

If you use the Chat Manager to run automated moderation scripts, Microsoft Edge may pause or throttle the page when it is running in the background. This can prevent features such as Bot Talk, automatic unmute timers and other scheduled actions from running while the Chat Manager window is minimised.

Fortunately, Microsoft Edge provides a few settings that help keep Chat Manager running reliably, even when the browser is minimised.

Keeping Chat Manager Running

1. Open Microsoft Edge.
2. Click the three dots in the top-right corner.
3. Select Settings.
4. Click System and performance.
5. Under Always keep these sites active, click Add site.
6. Add the following website:

Recommended Performance Settings

• Set Put inactive tabs to sleep after to Never, or disable Sleeping Tabs completely while using Chat Manager.
• If Energy Saver is enabled, consider turning it off while running Chat Manager, particularly on laptops. Energy Saver may further reduce background activity to conserve battery power.

Why Is This Needed?

Modern web browsers automatically reduce the resources used by background tabs to improve performance and save battery life. This includes suspending inactive tabs and reducing the frequency of background timers.

While these features are beneficial for most websites, they can interrupt automation that relies on timers running continuously, such as moderation scripts, scheduled announcements and automatic unmute timers.

Adding NatterFly to the Always keep these sites active list, disabling Sleeping Tabs for Chat Manager, and ensuring Energy Saver is not limiting browser activity will provide the most reliable experience.
