Game Keeper is a browser-based games host for NatterFly, created to bring back some of the fun and atmosphere of the old chatroom days.

Designed to look and feel like a classic Windows program from the early days of the internet, Game Keeper combines an intentionally retro interface with a modern, fully automated multiplayer games system. Think MSN Chat, desktop utilities, grey Windows menus and dial-up modems, but built to work with NatterFly today.

For an extra bit of nostalgia, Game Keeper even includes an optional fake dial-up modem login sequence, complete with the familiar sounds of connecting to the internet. It can be switched off if you just want to get straight into the room, but it wouldn't quite be the old internet without that modem noise!

Once connected, simply choose a game and Game Keeper takes care of the rest. Members play directly in the chatroom while Game Keeper runs each round, checks answers, awards points and keeps track of the scores.

Games included

Game Keeper currently includes:

Hangman: guess the word before you run out of lives.
Word Scramble: unscramble the letters and be first with the correct word.
Play Your Cards Right: decide whether the next card will be higher or lower.
The Price Is Right: guess the price and see who gets closest.
Countdown Numbers: use the supplied numbers to get as close as possible to the target.
Odd One Out: work out which of the choices doesn't belong.

More games can be added in future versions.

Make the games your own

Several Game Keeper games use simple text-based game packs, making them easy to customise.

Hangman and Word Scramble packs, for example, can contain one word per line:

The downloadable version keeps its game scores locally and does not submit scores to NatterFly's official leaderboard.

Built for games, not moderation

Game Keeper is purely a games host. It does not include moderation features such as warnings, mutes, kicks, bans or automated room management.

For moderation and room-management tools, Sentry is the companion application designed for those jobs.

Game Keeper is there for something much simpler: having a bit of fun in the chatroom.

Whether you're running a quick game of Hangman with a few friends, putting the room through a round of Countdown Numbers or seeing who'll risk going higher in Play Your Cards Right, Game Keeper handles the hosting while everyone else gets on with playing.
